Q:
Hi there,
I’m wondering about your Gut Soothe product.
I have a talented 8 year mare whom I cannot get her manure to firm up into fecal balls - it’s been a chronic soft pile. I’ve raised and trained her so know her whole history, this started around when she was 5-6. Without going into too many more details for now, can you tell me how this product can benefit her compared to other “high end” products on the market? I’ve tried a lot of approaches. After dealing with ulcers, proximal enteritis and running several fecal samples to the lab for all sorts of pathogen testing (all coming back negative), I still cannot get this issue corrected. I’m thinking possibly leaky gut now originating from medication/stress as a 5 year old.
How do you know that the probiotic in your formula truly makes it to the horse’s colon and re-colonizes? What kind of results do you have?
Thanks for your time,
Jalaine

Hi Jalaine! We reached out to our equine expert, Sarah Griffiths, to help answer your questions. Here's what she had to say...
"I’d recommend reading the following articles on our blog:

This might not be fecal water syndrome but it definitely sounds like a gut imbalance.
And, the equine gut soothe is a completely unique product (not just a probiotic) these are the mechanisms of the gut soothe ingredients:
-reduces inflammation of the epithelium (gut cells)
-replenishes the mucosal lining
-contains 4 species-appropriate prebiotic strains
-balances the microbiome with 15 probiotic strains including North America’s only equine-specific probiotics derived from healthy horse manure (most probiotics on the market are derived from cows)
-our equine strains are are scientifically proven to modulate inflammation by increasing production of short chain fatty acids in the hind gut
This case sounds like possibly a microbiome imbalance as a result of medications and stress (according to your description) and may need additional assistance in the form of one-on-one consultation but diet and gut soothe would be a very good place to start. I’d suggest going up to a double dose of the gut soothe - recommended amount for her weight (if she’s an average sized horse, it will be 2 scoops daily instead of just 1) for 8 weeks and then down to the maintenance dose of one scoop daily.
I’d also recommend 8-12 weeks on our equine liver tonic since the liver gets dysregulated when the gut is not working correctly and this can contribute to loose stools."
Sarah also offers one-on-one consultation so if you're interested on connecting with her, here's a link to her website... https://theanimalsynergist.com
